National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB)
 
National Curriculum and Textbook Boardcommonly known as NCTB, the largest State owned Publishing House of the world is responsible for the total supply of Textbooks for millions of learners, School beginners to Pre-University level learners of the country. This huge National Institution has four campuses. The main campus stations its Head office in a 12 storied & 7 storied twin buildings at 69-70, Motijheel C.A. It has two huge godowns, one at Tejgaon I.A. & another at Tongi which can accommodate about 20,000 metric tons of papers & thousands of books. NCTB provides accommodation to its regular staff & officers in 6 buildings in Rankin Street, Tejgaon & Tongi. The biggest organization under the Ministry of Education, NCTB is run by a huge budget of Taka 976.2 million per annum. A brief scenario is given here under.
 
History
  • East Bengal School Textbook Committee - 1947 :              DPI as Chairman & 38 members.
  • East Pakistan School Textbook Board - 1954 :         Chairman, Secretary, members - DPI, Chairman of Education Board.
  • National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) - 1981 : Director & 2 members.
  • National Curriculum & Textbook Board (NCTB) : 1983 (by merging Textbook Board & NCDC)

    •  Job      :  Printing, binding & distribution to districts

    • Finance:  ADB, W.B under PEDP-II project.

  Secondary Textbooks       
  •  Mode of Publishing : Published by both NCTB and

                                         Private publishers also prepare

                                         manuscripts.
  • Evaluation                 : Both NCTB & private publishers

                                         submit manuscripts to ITEC for 

                                         evaluation.
  • Printing/Marketing   :17.3 million NCTB books marketed

                                          through printers/ publishers chosen

                                          by open offer/tender.
Quality of Books & Price
NCTB ensures both quality, security & low-price of textbooks. For Secondary books NCTB supplies the printers the KPM paper having 'NCTB water mark' at the mill rate. This ensures the low price as well as the quality of the textbooks. Moreover coloured KPM paper is used as security paper in each book to prevent any forgery. NCTB also procure significant amount of paper through international tender having water mark for printing primary textbooks.
